Senior Capstone Project: Fall 2020

Megan worked during the Fall 2020 semester on a documentary style project titled, SU Votes: The 2020 Election. This project is for her senior capstone through the Communication/Journalism Department's class COM 424: Electronic Media Producing and Performance. The documentary premiered on YouTube in late November. In Spring 2021, Megan presented her work at Ship's annual Minds@Work Conference.

SU Votes: The 2020 Election tells the story of Shippensburg University's efforts to get students to vote in one of the most heated elections in our nation's history. And with Pennsylvania being one of the key deciders for this race, getting young voters is more important than ever, since it's their future on the line. This documentary features interviews from Political Science professor, Dr. Alison Dagnes, two coordinators of Ship Votes, and even the two recently rediscovered campus political groups. This documentary will feature faculty and student perspectives on hot topics as well as the efforts to get students to the polls on election day.

Megan interviewed SUTV News Director, Jacob Hitz, about the upcoming election a week out from the big night. In this podcast, Megan asked Jacob questions stemming from the race to the White House, Senate, and House, as well as SUTV's plans for Election Night coverage on the eve of 11/3/2020.

Megan made this trailer as a sneak peek of her project. All video is shot and edited by Megan, with music coming from BenSound.com. This was posted on 10/18/2020, about a month before the documentary is set to be complete.
